OFFICER POINTS TASER AT DALLAS WINGS PLAYERS IN MIAMI ARREST
Body camera footage from the arrest of Dallas Wings guard Arike Ogunbowale in Miami in March has resurfaced, showing a police officer pointing a taser at Ogunbowale and her team-mate Paige Bueckers. The footage shows the arrest taking place at around 4.15am on 5 March outside the E11EVEN nightclub, after Wings players had gathered to celebrate Ogunbowale's win in the Unrivaled basketball league. Bueckers can be seen attempting to intervene as the officer takes hold of Ogunbowale's wrist, telling him "we got her" and placing an arm around her team-mate. The officer then draws a taser, pointing it first at Ogunbowale and then at Bueckers, while telling the gathered crowd to back away. Ogunbowale initially pulls her hand free before being detained and placed in a patrol car.
According to a report on the arrest, the players had been involved in an altercation inside the venue before officers were called, with Ogunbowale accused of punching a member of the nightclub's security staff. Other WNBA figures named in the footage include Las Vegas Aces guard Jackie Young, Chicago Sky forward DiJonai Carrington and an Unrivaled host identified as Maria Clifton, all of whom appeal to the officer during the arrest. Clifton is heard shouting at the officer to stop and not to handcuff Ogunbowale as she is led to the vehicle. The footage, which runs just under two minutes, was shared publicly by a sports outlet. Bueckers, the number one pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft, was not arrested despite the taser being pointed at her.
The footage has resurfaced with the Wings reported to be one game from the play-offs, drawing renewed attention to the team's players. Its release has focused particular attention on the officer's decision to point the taser at Bueckers, who was attempting to calm the situation rather than resist the arrest. The clip has prompted reaction from WNBA supporters online, with some calling for the officer to face consequences, according to reports. No further detail on the outcome of Ogunbowale's arrest, including any charges, was included in the material reviewed.
