HAYDEN PANETTIERE'S CAUSE OF DEATH RULED ACCIDENTAL OVERDOSE
Officials have ruled that actor Hayden Panettiere died from an accidental overdose, caused by a toxic combination of fentanyl, 4-ANPP, alprazolam, methocarbamol and quetiapine. She was found unresponsive at a home in Greenville, South Carolina, on 16 August. Police officers who arrived at the scene administered medical assistance, but she was pronounced dead shortly afterwards. Her father, Skip Panettiere, confirmed her death in a statement at the time. The ruling on the cause of death came roughly a month after she died.
Panettiere began her acting career in commercials at eleven months old. She went on to appear in the soap opera One Life to Live and the 2000 film Remember the Titans. She achieved international recognition playing cheerleader Claire Bennet in the NBC series Heroes. Her portrayal of country singer Juliette Barnes in Nashville earned her two Golden Globe nominations. In recent interviews, she had spoken about the pressures of growing up as a child star.
Panettiere had also discussed her past struggles with addiction and postpartum depression in those interviews. She said those struggles had contributed to her decision to relinquish custody of her daughter in 2018. Her family has not issued further public comment beyond her father's statement confirming her death. No additional details about the circumstances surrounding the overdose have been released. The confirmed cause of death follows weeks of unconfirmed reports about how she died.
