ZACH ERTZ TO REJOIN EAGLES' PRACTICE SQUAD
Zach Ertz is returning to the Philadelphia Eagles, signing with the team's practice squad, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. The move follows an MCL sprain suffered by Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert during Sunday's win over the Tennessee Titans, an injury expected to keep Goedert out for several weeks. Ertz is expected to spend a short period on the practice squad before being added to the active roster. He was the Eagles' second-round draft pick in 2013 and played for the club until being traded to the Arizona Cardinals in 2021.
Ertz most recently played for the Washington Commanders last year, but a torn ACL cut his season short. During his first spell with the Eagles, he was regarded as one of the league's leading tight ends and won a Super Bowl with the team in 2017. In 2024, Ertz and Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni had a confrontation on the field following a game between the Commanders and the Eagles, though both men later downplayed the seriousness of the exchange.
The Eagles' decision to bring back Ertz addresses an immediate gap at tight end created by Goedert's injury. No timetable has been given for when Ertz might be elevated from the practice squad to the active roster. The club has not detailed how long Goedert is expected to be sidelined beyond the multiple-week estimate reported by ESPN.
