GLENN CLOSE AND RIDLEY SCOTT TO RECEIVE HONORARY OSCARS

WED 10 JUN 2026

Glenn Close and Ridley Scott are among the recipients named to receive honorary Oscars at this year's Governors Awards. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences presents the honorary awards separately from the main Oscar ceremony. The Governors Awards are scheduled to take place in November. Both Close and Scott have accumulated Oscar nominations without winning a competitive award.

Close has received eight Oscar nominations throughout her career without a win. Scott has received four nominations and similarly has not taken home a competitive award. The Governors Awards allow the Academy to recognise individuals whose contributions to cinema have not been reflected in competitive results. Honorary Oscars have previously been awarded to figures including Hayao Miyazaki and Cicely Tyson.

The announcement confirms that both Close and Scott will formally receive Academy recognition for their bodies of work. The Governors Awards ceremony operates outside the main awards season calendar, typically drawing a smaller but industry-focused audience. The addition of Close and Scott to this year's recipients rounds out a ceremony that carries significant weight within the film industry. Further details on additional recipients or the full programme for the evening have not yet been confirmed.
