SAINTS LEFT TACKLE KELVIN BANKS SUFFERS ANKLE INJURY

MON 21 SEP 2026 US SPORTS

New Orleans Saints left tackle Kelvin Banks Jr. is believed to have suffered a high-ankle sprain during his side's 24-17 win over the Baltimore Ravens, according to a report from NFL Media's Ian Rapoport. Banks was carted off the field after going down awkwardly following a sack. He is set to undergo an MRI scan to determine the full extent of the injury. Asim Richards replaced Banks during the game and is positioned to take over as starting left tackle for any matches Banks misses.

Banks was selected by the Saints with the ninth overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. High-ankle sprains typically sideline players for several weeks, and a report from NBC Sports said a stint on injured reserve could follow depending on the results of the scan. The Saints' win over the Ravens came on the road in Baltimore and has been described by commentators as built on strong coaching decisions. The injury casts uncertainty over the Saints' offensive line as they look to build on the victory.

The extent of Banks' absence will depend on the MRI findings, which will determine whether he requires a spell on injured reserve. Richards is expected to continue as the starting left tackle for as long as Banks is unavailable. The Saints have not yet confirmed a timetable for Banks' return. Further updates on his condition are expected once the scan results are known.
