KEWAN LACY AVOIDS SEASON-ENDING INJURY AFTER MRI SCAN
Ole Miss defeated LSU 32-24, but running back Kewan Lacy left the game with a shoulder injury in the third quarter. An MRI carried out on Sunday found no long-term structural damage, according to ESPN senior writer Pete Thamel. Head coach Pete Golding and the coaching staff received the update the day after the win. Lacy is expected to be sore for a period but avoided a season-ending injury. His status for Ole Miss's next game, against Florida, remains undecided. Medical staff plan to monitor his recovery throughout the week.
The injury occurred with seven minutes nine seconds left in the third quarter as Ole Miss drove on offence. Lacy took a handoff and was tackled by LSU linebacker TJ Dottery, landing directly on his left shoulder. ESPN sideline reporter Laura Rutledge said his left arm appeared to hang loose as he was helped to the medical tent. He walked to the locker room for X-rays and did not return to the game. Lacy had undergone offseason surgery on the same left shoulder at the end of the 2025 season. Initial X-rays at the stadium were negative.
Training staff fitted Lacy with additional padding in an attempt to keep him on the field, but Golding opted to hold him out for the final quarter as a precaution. Lacy had already contributed 43 yards and a touchdown on nine carries before leaving the game. Reports suggest Ole Miss may turn to transfer running backs signed for backfield depth if Lacy is unavailable for the game against Florida in Gainesville. The coaching staff will assess Lacy's fitness over the coming days before deciding on his role for that game.
