SAINTS BEAT RAVENS 24-17 AFTER FOURTH-QUARTER COLLAPSE
The Baltimore Ravens lost 24-17 to the New Orleans Saints on Sunday, according to NBC Sports, after leading by 11 points in the first half and by eight points heading into the final quarter. The Saints scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter to complete the turnaround in Baltimore. Quarterback Tyler Shough scored on a quarterback sneak during the comeback, a play that Yahoo Sports described as contested. NBC Sports reported that Ravens players spoke publicly after the game about the pattern the result represents for the team. New Orleans secured the win despite trailing for most of the contest, per the report.
NBC Sports reported that the defeat was the 15th time since the start of the 2019 season that the Ravens have lost a game after holding a double-digit lead. The first 14 such losses came with John Harbaugh as head coach, while this was the first to occur under Jesse Minter, according to the report. Cornerback Marlon Humphrey, quoted via the team's official website, said "the consensus amongst the team is like, everyone is kind of tired of doing what we just did." Humphrey said many of the team's more experienced players feel it is "time" for change. Tight end Mark Andrews said he felt "not one similarity" to previous seasons, and said responsibility falls on leaders, including himself and Humphrey, to prevent a repeat.
Humphrey said he hoped the loss would prove to be "a hiccup" rather than part of "a bridge that is final and cannot be repaired," according to comments carried on the team's website. Andrews said senior players must ensure the team does not repeat old patterns "in new packaging." Yahoo Sports reported that Shough has produced strong performances late in games for the Saints on more than one occasion, including in the win over the Ravens. Neither report specified the Ravens' next opponent or fixture date.
