RITCHSON SAYS REACHER DROPPED WHITE SUPREMACIST BOOK PLOT
Alan Ritchson has said that plans to adapt Die Trying, an instalment of Lee Child's Jack Reacher novels, for the Amazon Prime Video series were dropped after Donald Trump won re-election in 2024. Responding to a fan on Threads who asked why the book had not been adapted, Ritchson wrote that he had once secured approval to film it, calling it his "favourite book" before adding: "Fun fact: I had it approved until someone got re-elected." He did not name Trump directly in the post. Die Trying, published in 1998, follows Reacher confronting a white supremacist militia that abducts a politician's daughter and attempts to use her as leverage to secede from the United States and form a white-only state. Ritchson plays the title character in the show, which is based on Child's novels.
The series has so far adapted Killing Floor, Bad Luck and Trouble, Persuader and Gone Tomorrow across its four seasons, with Persuader chosen for season three instead of Die Trying. A spin-off, Neagley, centred on Maria Sten's character Frances Neagley, has also launched. Ritchson has previously spoken about his political views, including comments made on Dax Shepard's Armchair Expert podcast about holding on to anger over US politics.
Prime Video has not commented publicly on the claim, according to one outlet, which said it had contacted the streaming service for a response. It remains unclear whether Die Trying could be adapted in a future season of the show.
