THE BLAZE BEAT HAMPSHIRE OFF FINAL BALL TO CLAIM CRICKET TREBLE
Emma Jones hit the final ball of the Women's One-Day Cup final for a boundary to win the match for The Blaze against Hampshire at the Utilita Bowl. The victory completed a domestic treble, following wins in the T20 Blast and the County Cup this season. Jones finished unbeaten on 34 from 25 balls, having needed 30 runs from the last three overs after four wickets fell for 29. She took two runs off the final delivery, bowled by Daisy Gibb, to clinch the title.
Hampshire batted first after Blaze captain Kirstie Gordon won the toss. Openers Ella McCaughan and Maia Bouchier put on 84 from 106 balls, before Bouchier, who had scored back-to-back centuries, was caught at long-on off Lucy Higham. Hampshire captain Georgia Adams was out cheaply, hitting a full toss from Higham to mid-off. McCaughan went on to score 78 before being trapped lbw by Grace Ballinger, while Freya Kemp made 52 before being stumped off Higham (4-49). Charley Phillips took 3-38, and Gordon, who conceded 39 runs from her 10 overs, took a catch at mid-on to dismiss Naomi Dattani. Gibb and Poppy Tulloch helped Hampshire reach 252 in the final over.
In the chase, half-centuries from Tammy Beaumont (74) and Georgia Elwiss (64) put The Blaze on course for their target of 252. Hampshire's spinners fought back, with Amanda-Jade Wellington taking 3-36 and Bex Tyson 2-46 to leave the match in the balance. The defeat meant Hampshire finished as runners-up on home soil for a second consecutive year, having lost the 2025 final to Lancashire. Jones's unbeaten innings secured The Blaze's clean sweep of the T20 Blast, County Cup and One-Day Cup titles this season.
