ANGEL REESE SETS WNBA RECORD FOR DOUBLE-DOUBLES IN SEASON

FRI 18 SEP 2026

The Atlanta Dream beat the Connecticut Sun 103-59 at the Gateway Centre Arena on Thursday, in their first game back after a break for the FIBA World Cup. Angel Reese scored a game-high 30 points on 11-of-14 shooting, adding 10 rebounds, three assists and two blocks. The display gave Reese her 30th double-double of the season, a new WNBA single-season record. The previous mark of 28, held by Alyssa Thomas since 2023, was surpassed in the win. Dream guard Rhyne Howard also set a WNBA record in the same match, reaching 129 three-pointers for the season, though she made just one of nine attempts on the night.

Reese scored 19 of her 30 points in the first half, then reached the mark with a free throw before grabbing her tenth rebound moments later. She is averaging a career-high 16.1 points per game this season. Speaking to reporters after the game, Reese said she was glad to be back with the Dream. "I enjoy getting a gold medal at the USA and enjoying my time there, but this is home," she said, adding that she wanted to set the tone for the playoffs.

The win came after Reese helped the United States win the 2026 FIBA World Cup with a 6-0 record. Reese led the US squad in blocks per game, averaging 0.8, and was second in steals behind Dream teammate Rhyne Howard. The WNBA season had been paused for almost three weeks to accommodate the World Cup before resuming on Thursday. Reese said her performance against the Sun was intended to signal what opponents could expect from Atlanta in the post-season.
