MCVAY SAYS RAMS SHOULD NOT PLAY IN AUSTRALIA AGAIN
Sean McVay said he hopes the Los Angeles Rams do not play another game in Australia after the team lost their Week 1 fixture there to the San Francisco 49ers by a score of 27-7. Speaking to reporters on Thursday, McVay said the team's strategy of arriving in Australia only the day before the game had proved to be a miscalculation. He said he wanted to put the result behind the team, comparing his approach to a scene from Men in Black in which memories are erased. McVay said the atmosphere for the match had been positive, and stressed that his comments about not returning should not be taken to mean otherwise. He said the Rams' focus was now on preparing properly for their next fixture.
The Rams host the New York Giants on Monday night, the first of 16 remaining games in their season. McVay said he was satisfied with the team's preparation since the defeat in Australia, describing their outlook using the phrase "eyes moving forward, chest out, chin up, eyes forward." He said the Giants, coming off their Week 1 performance, presented what he called a "great challenge" and a "really damn good football team." McVay said he expected the Giants to bring a large travelling support to the game in Los Angeles.
It remains unclear, according to reporting on the matter, whether the two long-haul flights associated with the Australia trip will have any lasting effect on the Rams' performance in Week 2 or beyond. McVay's comments came as the team shifted attention to a normal weekly preparation schedule following the one-off international fixture. No further details on future international scheduling for the Rams were given.
