UGREEN UNVEILS E INK PHOTO CASE FOR IPHONE 18 PRO
Ugreen has announced a new case for Apple's iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max that includes a colour E Ink screen on its rear panel. The company revealed the Magic E Ink Screen Case through its Weibo account, saying the display is designed to show synced photographs rather than function as an e-reader. Ugreen confirmed the case will be produced in sizes to fit both the iPhone 18 Pro and the larger Pro Max model. Pricing and availability have not yet been confirmed, and the case has so far only been announced for the Chinese market.
The case is built for Apple's latest Pro iPhones, which the company unveiled the previous week at an event called "Surprise and Shine". Those models introduced Ceramic Shield 2 screen protection, a redesigned vapour chamber, and an expanded Dynamic Island that can now show three Live Activities at once, up from two previously. Ugreen's accessory joins existing E Ink products such as the Xteink X4 Pro phone case and VidaBay's E Ink fridge magnets, built mainly for text or simple images. Reviewers have noted that colour E Ink displays, including Amazon's Kindle Colorsoft, tend to show muted colours compared with conventional screens.
It is not yet clear how well the case will reproduce photographs, since e-paper technology is generally considered better suited to text than colour images. Similar image-focused E Ink accessories, including fridge magnets reviewed elsewhere, have been criticised for poor picture quality. Ugreen has not said when the Magic E Ink Screen Case might be sold outside China or what it will cost. Whether the case will reach international buyers, and how it performs with photographs, remains to be confirmed.
