PHOENIX SUNS AGREE EXHIBIT 10 DEAL WITH DAVID STOCKTON
The Phoenix Suns have agreed an Exhibit 10 contract with point guard David Stockton, the son of Hall of Famer John Stockton, according to NBA insider Rob Murrows, who first reported the move. The deal comes as Phoenix finalises its roster ahead of media day and the start of training camp. Alongside Stockton, the Suns have signed former Portland Trail Blazers centre Duop Reath to a one-year contract as part of the same round of offseason moves. Reath is expected to add front-court depth, with centre Mark Williams likely to miss the first half of the season following surgery to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder.
An Exhibit 10 agreement lets Phoenix evaluate Stockton through training camp while retaining flexibility over his rights with the club's G League affiliate, the newly launched Valley Suns. Should he be waived before the regular season begins and spend at least 60 days with the Valley Suns, Stockton would become eligible for a financial bonus. His father, John Stockton, recorded 15,806 assists over 19 seasons with the Utah Jazz, a total that stands as the NBA's all-time record. David Stockton went undrafted out of Gonzaga in 2014 and has since built a 12-season career across the NBA and G League, including spells with Sacramento and Utah, averaging 14.2 points, 5.6 assists and 2.4 rebounds per game.
Both Stockton and Reath will compete for playing time behind third-year forward Oso Ighodaro and centre Khaman Maluach. The Valley Suns' launch as Phoenix's new G League entity gives the franchise added scope to assess depth at point guard across both the NBA and developmental levels. No further roster moves have been confirmed ahead of training camp.
