JETS ADD LINEBACKER WILL MCDONALD TO INJURY REPORT
The New York Jets added linebacker Will McDonald to their injury report on Thursday, listing him as a limited practice participant with an ankle injury. McDonald recorded a sack in Sunday's win over the Tennessee Titans and has taken 18.5 sacks over the Jets' past two seasons, the team said. The Jets also kept wide receiver Omar Cooper, safety Minkah Fitzpatrick, running back Kene Nwangwu and linebacker Joseph Ossai out of practice, citing ankle, groin, back and foot injuries. The team classed all four as week-to-week, pointing to their likely absence from Sunday's game against the Green Bay Packers.
Rookie cornerback D'Angelo Ponds and linebacker Jamien Sherwood moved up to full participation in Thursday's session, having carried calf and knee injuries. Ponds did not feature in last Sunday's game against the Titans, so facing the Packers would mark his first NFL appearance if selected. Cornerback Jarvis Brownlee, managing a shoulder issue, and defensive lineman David Onyemata, given a rest day, also completed full training. McDonald's ankle injury followed the sack he registered against Tennessee, in a game the Jets' defence helped win.
The Jets have not confirmed their line-up for Sunday's game, which depends on which players clear the injury list before kickoff. The continued absence of Fitzpatrick, Cooper, Nwangwu and Ossai from practice points to further changes to the roster the team fields against the Packers. Ponds' possible debut would add to a secondary already reshaped this season, the team's report shows. The Jets play the Packers on Sunday, and McDonald's fitness remains among the factors the team must still resolve before kickoff.
