SUSIE WILES SAYS SHE IS CANCER FREE AFTER MAYO CLINIC CHECKUP

THU 17 SEP 2026 INTERNATIONAL

Susie Wiles, the White House Chief of Staff, has said she is free of cancer after a checkup this week at the Mayo Clinic. In a post on X, she said her pathology results had come back clear. Wiles thanked her family, friends and doctors, as well as everyone who had prayed for her during treatment. She offered a separate thank you to President Donald Trump for what she described as his unwavering support. Wiles said she was grateful and would continue to work to advance his America First agenda.

The announcement comes almost six months after Trump first revealed Wiles' diagnosis on Truth Social, in which he praised her strength and her commitment to the job. Wiles confirmed the diagnosis herself in a statement at the time, saying nearly one in eight women in the United States face a similar diagnosis. She said such women continue to raise families, go to work and serve their communities, and that she had now joined their ranks. Wiles said she was grateful to what she called an outstanding team of doctors, who detected the cancer early and guided her care. Trump described the diagnosis at the time as early-stage breast cancer.

Wiles is the first woman to serve as White House chief of staff since the role was created during the Eisenhower administration. The Florida-based political consultant co-managed Trump's 2024 presidential campaign before taking up the position. She was among a small number of advisers who stayed with Trump after his 2020 election defeat and the January 6, 2021 riot at the US Capitol. Wiles said she intends to keep working to advance Trump's agenda following her recovery.
