SEAHAWKS RULE OUT QUARTERBACK SAM DARNOLD FOR WEEK 2 CLASH

The Seattle Seahawks have ruled out quarterback Sam Darnold for their Week 2 game against the Arizona Cardinals because of an injury, the club has confirmed. Darnold serves as Seattle's starting quarterback and has been described as the side's on-field leader so far this season, according to reports. The injury has been described in reports as "very unique", though further medical detail has not been made public. The Seahawks are not planning to place Darnold on injured reserve, according to reports. A potential timetable for his return is reported to have emerged, although no specific date has been confirmed publicly. Seattle will need to field a different starting quarterback for Sunday's fixture as a result.

News of Darnold's absence prompted reaction from NFL supporters, with some suggesting Arizona no longer face an easy opponent without Seattle's regular quarterback in the line-up. The reaction followed confirmation that Darnold would sit out Sunday's meeting between the two sides. Seattle has not disclosed publicly how or when Darnold sustained the injury. The decision to keep him off injured reserve was reported separately from confirmation of his absence for Week 2. Reports have not named which quarterback will start for Seattle in Darnold's place. The club has offered no further comment on his condition beyond ruling him out for the round.

The choice not to place Darnold on injured reserve leaves open the possibility of a quicker return, according to reports, though the Seahawks have not confirmed a firm date. Reports say a potential timetable for his comeback has emerged, without detailing specifics. Seattle's Week 2 fixture against Arizona is scheduled for Sunday. Followers of the team are said to be monitoring the situation closely given Darnold's role as starting quarterback. The Seahawks have not said whether the injury could affect his availability beyond Week 2.
