PARIS COURT AWARDS KIM KARDASHIAN €1 OVER 2016 ROBBERY

WED 16 SEP 2026 CRIME

A Paris court has awarded Kim Kardashian €1 in damages over the armed robbery she suffered in the French capital in 2016, matching the exact amount she had requested, according to a lawyer involved in the case. The ruling follows convictions handed down last year against eight people over their roles in the robbery, which Kardashian has described as "the most terrifying experience of my life." Her stylist, named as Simone Harouche in one account and Simone Bretter in another, was present during the robbery and was also awarded €1, the sum she had asked for. A former receptionist at the Hôtel de Pourtalès, where Kardashian was staying when she was targeted, was awarded €109,516, according to his lawyer. The hotel itself received €50,000 from the court.

Two robbers disguised as police officers forced their way into Kardashian's suite on 2 October 2016, during Paris Fashion Week, bound her with zip ties and tape, and fled with more than $6m in jewellery, including a diamond ring she had worn that night to a Givenchy show. The group became known in France as "les papys braqueurs", or the grandpa robbers, as six of those convicted were in their 60s and 70s when tried for armed robbery, kidnapping, gang association and other charges. None returned to prison, having already served time in pre-trial detention. The receptionist said he had been traumatised by the heist and had sought €550,000 in damages and interest; his lawyer, Mohand Ouidja, called the ruling a victory.

Kardashian and her stylist said in a joint statement that the decision was "not about the compensation, but about accountability and recognition", thanking the court and those who had supported them through the process. Kardashian said she remained "deeply grateful to the French authorities for pursuing justice in this case", adding that the crime had left a lasting impact on her and her family. Lawyers who represented Kardashian during the trial did not respond to requests for comment this week. None of those convicted have appealed against the court's ruling.
