JOHN HENRY DALEY AND DEVAN THOMPKINS NAMED NFL DRAFT PROSPECT RISERS

TUE 15 SEP 2026 US SPORTS

Week 2 of the US college football season reshaped the national rankings, with Oregon losing to Oklahoma State, top-ranked Ohio State blowing a 17-point lead against Texas, and Oklahoma falling to Michigan, according to a scouting column on NFL draft prospects. The column named Michigan edge rusher John Henry Daley a riser, crediting him with eight tackles, three tackles for loss and one sack against Oklahoma. It said Daley had managed only three tackles the previous week against Western Michigan. Alabama defensive lineman Devan Thompkins was also highlighted after recording six tackles, two tackles for loss and two sacks in a win over Kentucky.

The column had previously predicted Thompkins could rise up draft boards if his athleticism translated onto the field, and said his performance against Kentucky showed signs of that happening. He is listed at 6ft 5in and 290lb, with an estimated 40-yard dash time of 4.75 seconds, the column said. Daley is currently ranked 30th on the column's prospect board, which credited him with disrupting Oklahoma's game plan throughout the match. Arizona State wide receiver Reed Harris was also mentioned, with the column noting that the Sun Devils stayed competitive against Texas A&M before the Aggies pulled away to win in the second half.

The column forms part of a weekly assessment of college football prospects. It said the Week 2 results, including Ohio State's loss as the top-ranked team, underlined how unpredictable the season had been so far. The column focused its analysis on defensive linemen and wide receivers who stood out that week. Daley and Thompkins were named among the players most likely to move up draft evaluations, according to the column.
