CHIEFS ROOKIE MANSOOR DELANE'S SHOULDER INJURY DEEMED SHORT-TERM
Kansas City Chiefs cornerback Mansoor Delane is believed to have suffered only a short-term shoulder injury during Monday night's win over the Denver Broncos, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. Rapoport reported that X-rays and CT scans on Delane's shoulder came back clean. Delane was also set to undergo an MRI on Monday to confirm the extent of the injury. He was ruled out for the remainder of the game after landing on his shoulder during the second quarter.
Delane, selected sixth overall in this year's NFL Draft, recorded his first career interception on only his third career snap in the NFL, picking off Broncos quarterback Bo Nix to end Denver's opening possession. He was injured on that same play, which forced him from the field for the rest of the contest. Rapoport reported that Delane likely aggravated a shoulder injury he had already been managing during the Chiefs' offseason programme and training camp. The Chiefs went on to win the game against the Broncos.
The Chiefs are scheduled to play the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday night in Week 2, and Delane's availability for that game had not been confirmed. His status is expected to become clearer once the results of Monday's MRI are known. The clean X-ray and CT scan results were described as positive news for the Chiefs regarding one of their key rookie signings.
