TIGER WOODS PLAYS GOLF PUBLICLY FOR FIRST TIME SINCE DUI ARREST
Tiger Woods took part in a golf clinic at the NEXUS Cup on Tuesday, his first appearance on a golf course since his arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence. The event, held at Liberty National Golf Club, is a two-day amateur tournament Woods hosts to raise funds for the TGR Foundation. Asked about his game, Woods said: "I can hit pretty much anything," adding he felt "a little stiff" after socialising with other participants the previous night. The foundation funds STEM education, college-access schemes and career support for under-resourced young people.
Woods was arrested near his home on Jupiter Island, Florida, after his SUV clipped a trailer and rolled onto its side. Deputies reported signs of impairment and said he refused testing; a breathalyser test found no alcohol. He initially pleaded not guilty and withdrew from golf to recover. On 2 September, he reached a plea deal, pleading no contest to reckless driving and related charges, and a court suspended his driving licence for five years and ordered him to pay around $1,500 in fines and costs. The arrest came days after Woods played in a TGL match on 24 March, his last competitive appearance before Tuesday.
Woods's last PGA Tour appearance came at the 2024 Open Championship at Royal Troon, where he finished 14-over-par and missed the cut. He is a co-founder and part-owner of TGL, the indoor league in which he had last competed before the crash. His NEXUS Cup appearance has prompted speculation about a possible return to competitive golf, with no date confirmed. It was the fourth notable vehicle incident of his career, according to reports of his driving history.
