ANGEL REESE THANKS MOTHER AFTER USA WINS WORLD CUP GOLD

Team USA defeated France 97-79 in the FIBA World Cup final, according to the report. Following the victory, Angel Reese posted a message on X thanking her mother, Angel Webb Reese, for her support throughout her career. Reese wrote that although she has won at every stage of her life, in college basketball, the WNBA and now internationally, her greatest achievement is being able to call her mother "Mom". She attached a photograph of the pair together on the court after the game, showing Reese with her gold medal around her neck beneath a sign reading "World Champions".

Angel Webb Reese played basketball for the University of Maryland, Baltimore County across a four-year career before moving to Luxembourg to play professionally, and was later inducted into her university's Athletics Hall of Fame, the report said. Reese's father, Michael Reese, played basketball at Boston College. Reese has said watching her mother play was part of what drew her to the sport, telling Just Women's Sports that she used to attend her mother's league games every Sunday as a child and found them inspiring. Separately, France's Gabby Williams gave her account of why her team fell short against the USA in the final, in comments reported by a journalist on X on Monday, according to a separate report.

In January 2025, Reese featured her mother on an episode of her podcast, Unapologetically Angel, to mark her mother's birthday, the report said. During the episode, Reese revealed she had paid off her mother's mortgage, referencing an earlier agreement that her mother could choose to retire once the mortgage was cleared. Reese has not said whether her mother has since retired. Team USA's win adds a FIBA World Cup gold medal to Reese's list of honours across college, professional and international basketball.
