PAT MCAFEE JOINS ESPN'S MONDAY NIGHT COUNTDOWN LINE-UP

Pat McAfee made his debut on ESPN's Monday Night Countdown on 14 September, according to reports, joining as a new full-time analyst alongside returning host Scott Van Pelt and analysts Jason Kelce and Marcus Spears, with fellow newcomer Jason McCourty also added to the panel. McAfee said on air that he considered himself "the luckiest man on earth" and called it "an honour" to work alongside his colleagues, adding that his younger self "would have lost my mind" at the prospect of appearing on Monday Night Football in any capacity. The appointment had been reported the previous month as part of an expansion of McAfee's role at the network. McAfee already presents ESPN's College GameDay coverage and hosts The Pat McAfee Show, meaning the Countdown role adds to an already substantial on-air schedule.

Not everyone welcomed the move, according to reports. Linda Cohn, a former ESPN anchor who retired in June 2026 after 34 years at the network and who reportedly hosted more editions of SportsCenter than anyone in its history, said on her own podcast, The Linda Cohn Show, that she admired McAfee's achievements but questioned "how much Pat McAfee is enough Pat McAfee". She listed his daily three-hour show, his pre-game Countdown appearances and the possibility of his own alternative Monday Night Football broadcast on some nights, suggesting the slot could be dubbed "Monday Night McAfee". Andrew Marchand of The Athletic was reported to have made a similar point, reworking ESPN's own slogan to suggest it could become about "serving Pat McAfee". Social media reaction reported by Sportskeeda also included critical comments about the network's use of McAfee.

The debut forms part of wider changes to ESPN's autumn line-up, which reports say also include Stephen A. Smith confirming that Michael Irvin is returning to First Take. No further changes to McAfee's schedule have been confirmed beyond what has already been reported.
