DANIEL MALDINI'S DRIVING LICENCE SUSPENDED AFTER MILAN CRASH
Italy international Daniel Maldini has had his driving licence suspended after failing a breathalyser test following a car crash in Milan, police said. Milan city police confirmed that a road traffic accident took place in the early hours of Sunday, with Maldini administered a breathalyser test at the scene. An initial reading recorded a blood alcohol level of 0.91 grams per litre, followed by a second reading of 0.89 g/l, both above Italy's legal limit of 0.5 g/l. Police said his licence was confiscated after the positive result. The crash happened hours after Maldini scored the winning goal for Cagliari in a 2-1 away win over his parent club Atalanta in Serie A. He was taken to hospital for precautionary checks before being released.
Maldini was driving a Porsche Carrera when the collision occurred, according to reports. Citing Gazzetta dello Sport, one report said he failed to give way to a Volkswagen Golf carrying a man and a woman, causing the crash, with three other passengers travelling in his car at the time. Six people were involved in the two-car collision, and all are reported to have suffered minor injuries. Three ambulances and a medical car were sent to the scene, according to one report. The same report said Maldini also returned a positive result in a preliminary roadside test for drugs, with full toxicology results from the hospital still being assessed.
Maldini is the third generation of his family to represent Italy, following his father, Paolo Maldini, and grandfather, Cesare Maldini, both former Italy and AC Milan players. He made his international debut against Israel in a Nations League match in 2024 and has won six caps, the most recent in September 2025. Citing Sport Mediaset, one report said Maldini could face a fine and be denied a call-up to the Italy national team as a result of the crash. Neither Milan police nor Italian football authorities have confirmed further action at this stage.
