FIRED US ADMIRAL NANCY LACORE ADVANCES IN SOUTH CAROLINA PRIMARY

WED 10 JUN 2026 NORTH AMERICA

Nancy Lacore, a three-star rear admiral dismissed by United States Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth, has advanced to a Democratic run-off in a congressional race in South Carolina. Lacore served 35 years in the United States Navy before Hegseth removed her as part of a purge of senior military officials. The race is for the seat currently held by Nancy Mace. Lacore's advancement follows a closely watched primary contest in the state.

Hegseth carried out the removal of Lacore alongside a broader dismissal of senior United States military figures in his role as Defence Secretary. Lacore's candidacy in South Carolina drew significant attention given the circumstances of her departure from the navy. The seat she is seeking to contest belongs to Nancy Mace. The run-off will determine the Democratic candidate who will stand against the Republican incumbent.

Lacore's progression to the run-off stage means she remains in contention for a seat in the United States House of Representatives. Her campaign follows her dismissal from a career spanning three and a half decades in the United States Navy. The South Carolina contest now moves to the run-off phase, where Lacore will face a further Democratic opponent. The outcome of that run-off will set up the general election contest for Nancy Mace's congressional seat.
