LSU TRAVELS TO OLE MISS FOR LANE KIFFIN'S RETURN TO OXFORD

MON 14 SEP 2026 US SPORTS

LSU will travel to Oxford, Mississippi, on 19 September to play Ole Miss, in a fixture marking Lane Kiffin's return to the stadium where he served as head coach for six seasons. Tickets for the game were reported to start at around $580 for upper-level seats, with premium seats priced above $1,500. LSU linebacker Whit Weeks called it the most anticipated game of the season during a post-game press conference, saying "it's going to be fireworks" and that the Tigers know what kind of atmosphere awaits them on their first road trip of the year.

Weeks said LSU's defence and secondary would be positioned to make plays, citing the possibility of "scoop-and-scores, picks, interceptions, everything." According to ESPN's SP+ rankings, LSU's defence currently sits second nationally. In their previous game, LSU held Louisiana Tech to 140 total yards and minus-three rushing yards, recording seven sacks and three turnovers, including two fumbles forced by TJ Dottery, a transfer from Ole Miss. Edge rusher Princewill Umanmielen made three of those sacks, while Weeks added six tackles and three defensive stops. A separate report described the same performance against Louisiana Tech as lacklustre, pointing to "teachable moments" for LSU, in contrast to the defensive figures cited elsewhere.

Tension between the two programmes has been linked to the manner of Kiffin's departure from Ole Miss the previous December, though the report did not detail the circumstances further. The 19 September fixture in Oxford is confirmed as LSU's next game following their win over Louisiana Tech. Weeks said the Tigers "can't wait" for the match, framing it as a defining early test of the season.
