WITCHCRAFT RETREAT IN IRELAND DRAWS WOMEN FROM THE UNITED STATES

A group of 15 women gathered at a 200-year-old Irish estate to participate in a witchcraft retreat focused on communing with spirits. The retreat took place in woodland surroundings and drew attendees from the United States. Participants engaged in practices centred on speaking to the dead. The event formed part of a broader movement in which witches are organising into covens.

Organisers have framed the retreat as a response to what they describe as spiritual isolation. The coven structure is presented by participants as a direct challenge to religious and patriarchal authority. Anger is cited by those involved as an element of the healing process rather than an obstacle to it. The Irish estate provided the physical setting for rituals conducted in a sun-drenched interior room.

The retreat reflects a documented pattern of women in the United States seeking spiritual communities outside mainstream religious institutions. The transatlantic nature of the gathering indicates demand for such experiences extends beyond Ireland and the United Kingdom. Covens of this kind are forming with increasing organisational structure, blending grief work, spiritual practice, and communal ritual. The Irish countryside has become one location attracting international participants to these gatherings.
