LAMAR JACKSON RUSHES FOR TOUCHDOWN AS RAVENS LEAD COLTS 7-6

SUN 13 SEP 2026 US SPORTS

Lamar Jackson ran five yards for a touchdown on the Ravens' first offensive drive of the 2026 season, giving Baltimore a 7-6 lead over the Indianapolis Colts, according to reports. The touchdown followed a 49-yard pass from Jackson to wide receiver Zay Flowers that moved Baltimore to the edge of the end zone. Baltimore began the drive near midfield after Chris Moore returned a kickoff 42 yards. Reports said the touchdown was a designed running play called by the Ravens' new offensive coordinator, Declan Doyle, marking a successful start to their partnership.

Jackson enters the season without a new contract extension, with two years remaining on the five-year, $260 million deal signed in 2023, one report said. General manager Eric DeCosta has said he is "optimistic" about reaching a new agreement, the report said. Jackson's contract includes a no-trade and no-tag clause taking effect after 2027, giving him control over where he plays. The report said Baltimore's salary cap commitment to Jackson is due to rise from $34.39 million in 2026 to $84.34 million in 2027, after the team restructured his deal this year to reduce the 2026 figure from $74.5 million.

Hall of Famer Cris Carter said Jackson holds a strong negotiating position, citing his two Most Valuable Player awards. Speaking on the Inside Football programme, Carter said Jackson could command a contract similar to NBA deals, worth around $70 million a year. Carter said the season would be significant for Jackson's future with the Ravens, adding that a poor run of results could affect the outcome. The Ravens' season opener against the Colts continued in Indianapolis, with Baltimore leading 7-6 after the opening drive, according to reports.
