WERRO WINS WOMEN'S 800M AT ULTIMATE CHAMPIONSHIPS IN BUDAPEST
Audrey Werro of Switzerland won the women's 800 metres final at the Ultimate Championships in Budapest on Saturday night. Werro took an early lead and held off a late charge from Keely Hodgkinson of Great Britain to cross the line in 1:55.88. Femke Broeders-Bol of the Netherlands finished third.
The final featured three of the leading contenders in women's middle-distance running. Hodgkinson holds the European championship title, whilst Broeders-Bol, a former hurdler, shifted her focus to the 800m last year. The trio had been identified as part of a strong emerging field in the event throughout the year.
Werro's victory marks her success against two of her main rivals in the discipline. The result confirms Werro as the Ultimate Champion in the women's 800m event. Hodgkinson's second-place finish represents a significant result at an international championship despite not securing the title.
