SHANE LOWRY LEADS IRISH OPEN BY FOUR SHOTS GOING INTO FINAL ROUND
Shane Lowry holds a four-shot lead ahead of the final round of the Irish Open at Trump International Golf Links in County Clare. Lowry shot a five-under 65 in the third round to reach sixteen under par for the tournament. Denmark's Jacob Skov Olesen lies second on twelve under par after shooting a four-under 66, with Chile's Joaquin Niemann third on nine under par after matching Olesen's round score.
Lowry, the 2019 Open champion, made birdies on holes 10, 13 and 15 whilst one-putting every green on the back nine. He had set up his position with a course-record 62 on Friday and began the third round holding a three-shot lead. Defending champion Rory McIlroy of Northern Ireland shot a 74 to fall to two over par, whilst two-time winner Jon Rahm of Spain scored a 72 to reach one under par. Lowry's last individual win came in 2022.
Play was briefly suspended during the third round following the arrival of US President Donald Trump at the course. Lowry said after his round that he was seeing his putting lines clearly and hoped his form on the greens would continue into the final day. Skov Olesen is chasing his first DP World Tour title.
