CONOR MCGREGOR POSTS 9/11 TRIBUTE ON 25TH ANNIVERSARY

SAT 12 SEP 2026

Conor McGregor marked the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks with a social media post reflecting on the tragedy. McGregor wrote that he remembered watching the Twin Towers fall and described feeling shock, anger and heartbreak at the time. He recalled later learning that SEAL Team Six had killed Osama bin Laden in a raid in Abbottabad, Pakistan. McGregor honoured the 2,977 people who died in the attacks, the families affected and the first responders who attended the scene.

McGregor spent time with Robert J. O'Neill, a former Navy SEAL who has claimed publicly that he fired the fatal shots that killed bin Laden during the 2011 operation. The interaction prompted McGregor to reflect on what military personnel experience during deployments and after returning home. McGregor wrote that spending time with O'Neill gave him perspective on "the weight they continue carrying long after they return home". He stated that whilst people recognise the military role these men fulfil, they often do not see "the pain" or "the demons" that service members carry.

O'Neill and McGregor have become close friends and business partners. The former SEAL sat down with McGregor for an interview to discuss the anniversary, O'Neill's military career and the sacrifices made by service members. McGregor added that the world "still remembers" the attacks 25 years later.
