RICHARLISON'S VASCO DA GAMA MOVE COLLAPSES OVER CONTRACT TERMS

FRI 11 SEP 2026 FOOTBALL

Tottenham forward Richarlison's proposed transfer to Brazilian club Vasco da Gama has fallen through after personal terms could not be agreed, sources indicate. Spurs had reached agreement on a fee with Vasco for the 29-year-old's return to Brazil, but negotiations over contract details broke down. The Brazil transfer window closes on Friday night, with sources suggesting Richarlison is now likely to remain at Tottenham.

Richarlison has been omitted from Tottenham's Premier League squad following a summer in which he sought to leave the club. His proposed £35m move to Everton collapsed over disagreement on personal terms, and he subsequently asked Vasco da Gama about a transfer. Sources indicate Richarlison has also approached FIFA about terminating the final year of his contract with Spurs, which runs until summer 2026, though the club can trigger a 12-month extension. Tottenham manager Roberto de Zerbi declined to provide an update on the forward's future at a news conference on Friday, stating the matter was not his responsibility.

The 29-year-old has made clear he is keen to secure his release from his current deal rather than complete a transfer through the standard window. Spurs have maintained they require a transfer fee to allow him to depart. With the Brazilian transfer window set to close, Richarlison faces an uncertain immediate future, with no resolution to his contractual or employment status confirmed as of Friday evening.
