49ERS SIGN KYLE SHANAHAN TO CONTRACT EXTENSION

Kyle Shanahan has signed a contract extension with the San Francisco 49ers during the offseason, according to reporting from Tom Pelissero. The terms of the new deal were not disclosed. Shanahan's previous contract was believed to extend through the 2027 season. The 49ers defeated the Los Angeles Rams in a match played in Australia before the extension was made public.

Shanahan was hired by the 49ers in 2017 following a two-year period as offensive coordinator for the Atlanta Falcons. He has recorded 92 regular season and postseason victories across 10 seasons with San Francisco. The franchise won NFC Championships under Shanahan's leadership in 2019 and 2023, losing to the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl on both occasions. Despite significant injuries during the previous season, the 49ers completed that campaign with a 12-5 record and won a postseason match.

Shanahan is approaching George Seifert's record as the 49ers' all-time winningest head coach, with Seifert having secured 108 victories. The 49ers currently hold a record of 1-0 and will play host to the Miami Dolphins in their next fixture.
