X-MEN ACTOR TYLER MANE REVEALS MALE BREAST CANCER DIAGNOSIS
Actor Tyler Mane has announced he has been diagnosed with a rare form of male breast cancer. Mane, best known for playing Sabretooth in the 2000 film X-Men, made the announcement on Instagram on Monday. He described the diagnosis as placing him within the one per cent of men diagnosed with male breast cancer in their lifetime. He has begun chemotherapy treatment and shared a clip of himself in hospital connected to an intravenous drip.
Mane said his initial reaction was to keep the diagnosis private, describing the experience as "kind of embarrassing." He credited his wife, Renae Geerlings, with encouraging him to seek treatment after she pushed him to have a lump removed. Mane stated that his doctors had initially dismissed his concerns, and that early detection had proved critical. He noted that one in 755 men will receive a breast cancer diagnosis in their lifetime, and that the disease is more frequently caught at an advanced stage in men because it receives little attention.
On Tuesday, following his second day of chemotherapy, Mane posted a further update in which he thanked supporters for their messages and asked followers to share his post to raise awareness. Mane began his career as a professional wrestler before moving into acting. He played the villain Michael Myers in Rob Zombie's Halloween remakes and reprised his Sabretooth role in the 2024 film Deadpool & Wolverine. He urged the public to discuss male breast cancer more openly, emphasising that early detection significantly improves outcomes.
