MYLES GARRETT RECORDS NO STATS IN RAMS DEBUT LOSS TO 49ERS
Myles Garrett recorded no tackles, sacks or quarterback hits in his Los Angeles Rams debut against the San Francisco 49ers at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. The 49ers defeated the Rams 27-7. Garrett, a defensive end, logged only one pressure according to Pro Football Focus and described his performance as "the worst version of myself that I've put out there". He stated he needed to recover and return to the standard he had previously demonstrated.
Garrett dealt with knee swelling during training camp, which caused him to miss some practices and preseason work before returning ahead of the Rams' Week 1 game. San Francisco's offence capitalised on his limited impact, with quarterback Brock Purdy completing 25 of 34 passes for 205 yards and three touchdowns without taking a sack. Purdy connected with Demarcus Robinson for a 39-yard touchdown in the first half and orchestrated a 99-yard scoring drive in the fourth quarter. This marked only the fourth game of Garrett's career in which he recorded no tackles, sacks or quarterback hits; the other three games also resulted in losses.
The Rams acquired Garrett to provide defensive pressure and disrupt opposing quarterbacks in the backfield. His lack of impact in the debut raises questions about his fitness and integration into the team's defence following the trade from Cleveland.
