ANTHONY VOLPE RETURNS TO YANKEES LINEUP AFTER MINOR LEAGUE STINT
The New York Yankees recalled Anthony Volpe to their major league roster on 10 September, with the 25-year-old making an immediate impact in his return. Volpe started at second base in a game against the Colorado Rockies and recorded three hits and five runs batted in during a 10-3 Yankees victory. His performance included a grand slam in the seventh inning.
Volpe had undergone shoulder surgery in October 2025 to repair a labrum tear sustained during the previous season. He spent time in minor league rehabilitation before the Yankees recalled him in May, though the franchise optioned him back to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre after playing through June and July. The move prompted Volpe to reflect on his uncertain standing with the team. "I never thought I was going to be back here in this moment," he told media outlets. "There was nothing guaranteed."
Volpe replaced Jazz Chisholm Jr. in the starting lineup. The shortstop-turned-second baseman said he had attempted to remain prepared for any opportunity to return to the majors, despite having little expectation of receiving another call-up. His performance against Colorado prompted crowd support, with spectators chanting his name during the game.
