CHICAGO BULLS ANNOUNCE SEASON-LONG TRIBUTE TO STACEY KING
The Chicago Bulls have unveiled a season-long tribute to honour Stacey King throughout the 2026–27 NBA season. King, a three-time NBA champion who played in the Bulls' first three championship runs alongside Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen, died in June at the age of 59. The team announced that all players will wear a commemorative black band on the upper-left side of their jerseys, featuring King's surname and a stylised microphone icon representing his two decades as the franchise's television broadcaster.
The Bulls will host a dedicated "Stacey King Celebration Night" on 4 February 2027, when the team faces the Oklahoma City Thunder at the United Centre. The date falls six days after what would have been King's 60th birthday on 29 January and reflects his roots in Oklahoma. King died on 7 June 2026 at his home in River Forest, Illinois; the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office determined that hypertensive cardiovascular disease related to long-term high blood pressure caused his death, with obesity as a contributing factor.
Further details regarding special guest appearances, game-night giveaways and in-arena programming for the celebration will be disclosed closer to the event. King, who was born in Lawton, Oklahoma, played college basketball for the University of Oklahoma from 1985 to 1989 under head coach Billy Tubbs before beginning his NBA career with the Bulls.
