TRUMP PROMISES $5,000 PAYMENT TO US ADULTS IF REPUBLICANS WIN MIDTERMS

US President Donald Trump promised to pay every American adult $5,000 if Republicans retain control of Congress in November's midterm election. Trump made the proposal during a speech at the Republican Party's midterm convention in Dallas on Wednesday evening. The speech lasted nearly two hours and marked the opening of the two-day gathering. Trump described the payment as a "Trump dividend" and said the money would have to be spent within the United States.

The total cost of the proposal would amount to approximately $1.35 trillion, based on roughly 270 million US adults in the country. It was not immediately clear how the payments would be funded or whether they would be legal. Trump used the convention to promote his second-term record, describing his presidency as "the most successful two years financially and every other way in the history of the presidency." The convention differs from traditional quadrennial party conventions, as it has no nominating business and instead focuses on showcasing Trump's record and promoting candidates.

Trump's address covered domestic policy alongside discussion of tariffs, trade, the war with Iran and immigration policy. The speech came amid polling data suggesting swing voters have moved away from Trump's party, with growing public concern about the cost of living. Trump warned that Democrats would damage the nation's recovery if given control, stating: "We hand America's future to the radical left Democrats, and our nation will spend the next decade just getting back on its feet."
