DAE'QUAN WRIGHT WAITS ON NFL DECISION AFTER LSU REJECTS RETURN
Tight end Dae'Quan Wright's attempt to return to college football ended on Tuesday when Louisiana State University completed its roster with other players. Wright, who was signed by the Cleveland Browns after going undrafted from Ole Miss and subsequently waived, had been granted eligibility to play college football by a Baton Rouge judge. The SEC had threatened to pursue expelling LSU from the conference over the school's interest in signing players with prior NFL experience. With his path to LSU closed, Wright's agent Drew Rosenhaus told ESPN that Wright is now awaiting word on his eligibility to return to the NFL this season.
Rosenhaus stated that multiple teams have expressed interest in signing Wright should he receive clearance to play in the league. The agent also confirmed that Wright is considering legal options in response to LSU's decision to sign alternative players instead. Defensive lineman Zxavian Harris, another former Ole Miss player who spent time with the New Orleans Saints during the offseason, was similarly attempting to join LSU but did not secure a roster spot.
Wright's situation reflects broader uncertainty around the eligibility rules governing players who move between college and professional football. No timeline for an NFL decision on Wright's status has been made public. His case may establish precedent for future transfers between the collegiate and professional ranks.
