HARVEY LEGAL AI STARTUP RAISES $550M AT $15.5BN VALUATION

WED 09 SEP 2026 STARTUPS

Harvey, a legal artificial intelligence startup, has raised $550 million in new funding at a valuation of $15.5 billion, the company announced on Wednesday. The round was co-led by Diffusion and Lightspeed Venture Partners, with participation from Sequoia, Kleiner Perkins, a16z, Coatue, Conviction, Elad Gil, Evantic, GIC, Goldman Sachs Alternatives, Verified Capital, Sapphire Ventures, Whale Rock and WNDR. The funding represents an increase of nearly $5 billion from Harvey's previous valuation of $11 billion, which the company announced in March following a $200 million round. Harvey also announced its acquisition of Guardrails AI, a San Francisco-based security platform for AI agents, with co-founders Shreya Rajpal and Zayd Simjee joining Harvey's product and engineering organisation.

The San Francisco-based company provides artificial intelligence tools for legal and professional services by leveraging data tuned using legal, tax and business knowledge. According to Harvey, its platform is used by a majority of the world's largest law firms and by in-house legal teams at five of the Fortune 10. The company also unveiled Harvey Tenet, its first post-trained open-weight model, which is built on a base from Chinese AI startup Moonshot's Kimi K3 and trained specifically for legal tasks. Harvey co-founders Winston Weinberg and Gabe Pereyra stated that "the opportunity for companies to accelerate their competitive advantage with AI has never been higher" and expressed the company's intention to hire and develop teams to support clients through ongoing AI transformation.

Earlier this year, Harvey opened an office in Dublin with plans to hire more than 40 employees over the next two years, following initial announcements in January that had projected 20 roles in the first year. The funding round comes as demand for domain-specific artificial intelligence applications in professional services continues to grow. The company's valuation trajectory reflects investor confidence in legal technology driven by AI tools, with three significant funding rounds announced within a nine-month period.
