NELLY KORDA WARNS USA OF HOME CROWD DISADVANTAGE AT SOLHEIM CUP
Nelly Korda has highlighted the lack of gallery support for Team USA ahead of the Solheim Cup, which takes place from 11 to 13 September at Bernardus Golf in Cromvoirt, North Brabant, the Netherlands. Korda, a four-time major champion, noted that the American side has historically struggled when the team championship is held on European soil. She acknowledged that the home crowd backing European players adds emotional weight to the competition, citing the 2023 edition in Málaga, Spain, where Carlota Ciganda's victory over Korda helped Europe retain the Cup.
Over recent decades, Team USA has lost five Solheim Cups on European soil whilst winning three and tying one. When the tournament returned to Gleneagles in Scotland in 2024, Team USA secured the trophy with a 15.5-12.5 victory, suggesting that home advantage for Europe is significant but not insurmountable. Korda will make her fifth Solheim Cup appearance for Team USA, carrying a record of 10 wins, 5 losses and 1 tie into the contest. Angela Stanford will captain the American team.
Korda said the team plans to rely on mutual support and mental toughness to overcome the disadvantage of playing in front of a European crowd. She acknowledged that whilst some USA supporters will be present at Bernardus Golf, the majority of the gallery will favour the home side. Korda encouraged her teammates to draw strength from supporters back home, framing the tournament as an opportunity for the American side to prove themselves under challenging circumstances.
