APPLE UNVEILS IPHONE 18 PRO WITH A20 CHIP AND EXTENDED BATTERY

WED 09 SEP 2026 MOBILE

Apple announced the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max at its event on Wednesday. The devices come in deep black, silver, glacier and burgundy finishes with colour-matched back glass. Apple stated the new phones feature the longest battery life of any iPhone to date and are equipped to work with Apple Intelligence and an updated version of Siri with more expressive voices.

The phones use Apple's new A20 Pro chip, built on 2-nanometre technology similar to the M6 chips used in other Apple products. According to Sribalan Santhanam, Vice President of Silicon Engineering, the A20 Pro features a six-core CPU with two "desktop-class" super cores and four efficiency cores, alongside a seven-core GPU design that Apple stated delivers a 40 per cent increase in performance. The new Pro models continue design elements introduced with the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max in 2025, including an aluminium body, a vapour chamber for thermal management and a camera bar across the back that Apple calls the "plateau". The iPhone 17 Pro line also introduced an 18-megapixel Centre Stage front camera for wide-angle selfies taken in portrait mode.

John Ternus is serving as CEO at Apple during the announcement, marking his first product launch event in that role. The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max succeed the 2025 iPhone 17 generation in Apple's smartphone lineup.
