NICOLAS CAGE'S MALIBU MANSION DAMAGED AS DRIVEWAY SINKHOLE OPENS

WED 09 SEP 2026

The driveway of Nicolas Cage's Malibu mansion collapsed on the morning of 8 September, creating a large sinkhole in front of the property. The collapse triggered a natural gas leak before 6am. Utility company SoCalGas reported that the leak was brought under control within several hours but temporarily shut off natural gas services to an 85-foot section of the street as a precaution against coastal erosion. Representatives for Cage did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

The mansion sustained damage during a Los Angeles-area coastal flooding advisory caused by the lingering effects of tropical storm Marie, which had previously been classified as a hurricane. The property is located on Malibu's beachfront and has been valued at $10.5 million. Photographs of the site showed the residence positioned at the edge of a substantial crater that opened on the street adjacent to the home.

The incident occurred as the coastal region experienced weather-related hazards from the tropical system. Utility officials determined that temporary suspension of gas services to the affected street section was necessary to mitigate further risk from coastal erosion in the area surrounding the collapse.
