MESSI REACHES AGREEMENT TO BUY SPANISH SECOND-DIVISION CLUB ELDENSE

WED 09 SEP 2026 FOOTBALL

Lionel Messi has reached an agreement in principle to acquire 100 per cent of the shares of CD Eldense, a club competing in Spain's second division, according to reports from Spanish media. Messi's legal representatives negotiated the deal with Colombian investment group TH. The transaction will be finalised once legal and contractual formalities are completed, at which point the Argentine will become the majority shareholder.

Eldense currently sits 20th in La Liga 2 and has 3,500 season ticket holders. The reported acquisition comes as Messi, now aged 39, approaches the final stages of his playing career. He retired from international football following Argentina's loss to Spain in the 2026 World Cup final. The investment represents a solo venture, with no involvement from partners or former players, according to reports.

The move signals Messi's transition into club ownership and investment as his playing days wind down. His purchase of Eldense would add to what has been described as his growing football empire. No timeline for completion of the transaction has been announced.
