CYCLIST DIES IN COLLISION WITH CAR ON A8 IN PORT GLASGOW
Iain McTavish, a cyclist, died at the scene of a collision involving three cyclists and a blue Ford C-Max Zetec on the A8 in Port Glasgow on Tuesday evening shortly after 19:00. The crash occurred on the westbound carriageway between the Langbank and Woodhall roundabouts in Inverclyde. Two other male cyclists, aged 37 and 27, were taken to hospital following the incident. The road was closed after the collision but has since reopened. Police Scotland said inquiries were ongoing to establish the full circumstances of the crash.
McTavish was a member of Johnstone Wheelers Cycling Club. Scottish Cycling said McTavish was a vital member of the organisation's community and had attended every round of Track League the previous year. He served as a rider representative on the Track League committee. Scottish Cycling described him as "a reliable and friendly face" who was known for attending ride meet points consistently. Johnstone Wheelers said the club was "devastated at the loss of one of cycling's good guys".
Scottish Ambulance Service dispatched three ambulances, four special operations response teams, a critical care team and a rapid resuscitation response team to the scene. Two patients were transported to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital. Tributes to McTavish have been posted on social media by members of the cycling community in Scotland's west.
