BAKER MAYFIELD SIGNS $165M EXTENSION WITH TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS
Baker Mayfield has agreed a three-year contract extension with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers worth $165 million, according to reports from NFL Network and ESPN. The deal keeps Mayfield under contract through the 2029 season at $55 million per year. The agreement comes weeks after Mayfield cut off extension talks at the start of training camp, stating he felt disrespected by the club's initial offer.
Mayfield has started for Tampa Bay for three seasons since joining on a one-year deal in 2023. In his first year with the Buccaneers, he led the club to a division title and a postseason victory. Last season, the quarterback completed 63.2 per cent of his passes for 3,693 yards, 25 touchdowns and 11 interceptions as Tampa Bay finished 8-9 and missed the postseason. According to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo, the two sides were not far apart when talks began at training camp, and both returned to negotiations after a break to reach agreement.
The extension prevents Mayfield from playing out a contract year. The Buccaneers begin the 2026 season on the road against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday. Mayfield was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft before joining Tampa Bay.
