CHANNEL 4 TO CUT UP TO 325 JOBS IN LARGEST REDUNDANCY ROUND

TUE 08 SEP 2026

Channel 4 plans to reduce its workforce by between 300 and 325 positions, representing approximately a quarter of its staff, according to the broadcaster. The redundancy round follows the appointment of chief executive Priya Dogra in March and constitutes the largest staffing reduction in the organisation's 43-year history. A Channel 4 spokesperson confirmed the broadcaster is conducting a comprehensive review of its structure and strategy. Staff will be informed directly before public statements are made, the spokesperson added.

London-based roles are expected to be most affected by the cuts as part of a strategic shift to increase staffing in the UK's nations and regions. The job losses come two years after Channel 4 eliminated 200 positions under former chief executive Alex Mahon. The broadcaster's planned reductions follow wider cost-cutting across the media sector, with the BBC announcing the elimination of 2,000 jobs.

The redundancies reflect financial pressures facing British broadcasters. Channel 4 has not disclosed specific timelines for the consultation process or implementation of the cuts. The announcement marks a significant restructuring of the organisation's operations and staffing model.
