HAMLIN CRITICISES SPIRE MOTORSPORTS OVER HOCEVAR CONDUCT

TUE 08 SEP 2026 F1/MOTORSPORT

Denny Hamlin, a Joe Gibbs Racing driver, has criticised Spire Motorsports following an incident involving Carson Hocevar at Darlington. Hocevar's No. 77 Chevrolet made repeated contact with Brad Keselowski's No. 6 Ford through Turn 4 at the end of Stage 1, sending Keselowski's vehicle into a spin. When asked about the incident, Hocevar gave dismissive responses, initially saying only "Yeah, he spun" and later stating "I guess. I don't know what happened." Keselowski responded by warning Hocevar that "his day's coming, and it's coming hard."

Hamlin directed his criticism not at Hocevar but at the organisation overseeing him. Speaking on the Actions Detrimental podcast, Hamlin stated: "There are no adults in the room, clearly, in that building. No adults." He suggested that Spire Motorsports was failing to hold Hocevar accountable and characterised the organisation as "unserious" in its approach to running a competitive team. Hamlin's comments reflected broader concerns among NASCAR voices about Hocevar's attitude and conduct following the collision.

Hocevar currently competes in the Chase for the Championship, whilst Keselowski does not hold a position in the current playoff standings. Hamlin declined to give further attention to Hocevar on his podcast, stating he believed doing so would provide the driver with the spotlight he desired. The incident marks the latest in a pattern of on-track controversies involving Hocevar this season.
