OLE MISS FAN RECEIVES UNSOLICITED MESSAGES AFTER ESPN BROADCAST APPEARANCE

TUE 08 SEP 2026 FOOTBALL

An Ole Miss University fan became the subject of widespread online attention after appearing on ESPN during a college football match between Ole Miss and Louisville. The fan was filmed in the stands during the third quarter holding her mobile phone above her head whilst watching the game. The footage, lasting approximately five seconds, captured her facial expression as Louisville closed a 14-point deficit, and the clip circulated across social media platforms in the hours that followed.

Social media accounts identified the woman as Sara Smith and shared photographs alongside the ESPN screenshot. Additional images described as being from her social media accounts were circulated online. The attention reportedly became sufficiently intense that Smith locked down her Instagram account. According to reports, she subsequently shared screenshots of direct messages she had received in the 24 hours following the broadcast. The messages included offers from strangers, including one man offering to purchase designer clothing from Paris and another listing his height, weight, annual income and describing himself as a business owner and "God-fearing."

Smith's experience reflects broader patterns of online identification and contact directed at individuals who appear briefly in public broadcasts. The messages she received varied widely in nature, from personal information disclosures to unsolicited offers of purchases. Her decision to make the messages public did not result in confirmed reports of further action by either Smith or the individuals who contacted her.
