PRINCE GEORGE ARRIVES AT ETON COLLEGE FOR FIRST DAY

TUE 08 SEP 2026 ROYAL

Prince George arrived at Eton College on his first day of term, accompanied by his parents, the Prince and Princess of Wales. The 13-year-old was welcomed by head master Simon Henderson and provost Sir Nicholas Coleridge. George will board at one of the school's 25 boarding houses. The head master told the new pupil: "Welcome, good luck and enjoy."

Eton College is a historic private boarding school in Berkshire with annual fees reported at between £63,298 and £65,000. Prince George follows his father Prince William, his uncle the Duke of Sussex, and his great uncle Earl Spencer in attending the institution. The school has educated 20 British prime ministers; recent Old Etonians in politics include Lord David Cameron, Boris Johnson, Kwasi Kwarteng and Sir Jacob Rees-Mogg. The school is situated near the royal family's home in Windsor.

Prince William has previously spoken of his experience at Eton, stating in June 2000 that he had "really enjoyed being able to go about Eton as just another student." The Prince and Princess of Wales expressed hope that George would be permitted to complete his education at the school without media intrusion. Melanie Sanderson, managing editor of the Good Schools Guide, characterised Eton as "a modern school with a progressive outlook" despite its historic buildings, and noted that George faces "a very particular future" as the child of parents with "an unrivalled choice of schools available to them."
