CARDINALS RUNNING BACK LOVE PROGRESSING FROM ANKLE INJURY

TUE 08 SEP 2026 US SPORTS

Jeremiyah Love, the Arizona Cardinals' third overall draft pick, is progressing in his recovery from a high-ankle sprain sustained on 13 August during a preseason game against the Raiders. Cardinals coach Mike LaFleur stated on Monday that Love was moving around on the practice field and expressed optimism about his availability for the team's first regular-season game against the Chargers. LaFleur said he would have a clearer assessment of Love's status following Wednesday's official injury report, the first of the season.

Love has not practised or played since suffering the injury in August. During the one preseason game he participated in before the injury, Love recorded 14 touches for 73 yards in the first half. The Cardinals' head coach was asked directly whether he felt confident about the rookie's chances of playing in Week 1. LaFleur responded affirmatively, stating: "Yeah, I feel good."

The official injury report released on Wednesday will provide the first formal update on Love's rehabilitation status and his eligibility for the opening fixture. His availability would be significant for Arizona's offensive plans in the season opener, given his draft position and role within the team's strategy.
